The proposed project aims to create a safe, playful, and sustainable environment for the future guests of Moshi’s nursery. Central to the design is a large, inclusive roof (Paa in Swahili) that shelters spaces for learning and play, promoting community engagement.
The layout maximizes natural light in the morning and reduces heat in the afternoon with strategic vegetation placement. A path under sloping roofs connects the structures, leading to a protected courtyard formed by offsetting one building. This area features shaded, playful elements like a canopy and a slide. Separation between classrooms enhances ventilation, acoustics, and views.
The design uses compressed earth bricks and a timber-metal roof system that aids cooling and rainwater collection. Recycled materials, modular furnishings, and colorful fabric elements enrich the playful, sustainable setting.
Paa becomes a place where children can grow, learn, and play in harmony with nature.
